Does Open Road Tours expect payment in other currency?
All prices are quoted in South African Rand (ZAR Rand) your bank can do the conversion
Does Open Road Tours offer a meet and greet service at the airport?
Yes, if the client books through Open Road Tours, either one of our Tourist guides or one of our meet and greet agents will be at the airport to meet you and to assist you.
How will I recognize the guide/agent that will meet me?
The guide/agent will wait at the arrivals hall with a sign board which will display the client's or groups name.
Can Open Road Tours assist with foreign exchange?
When you meet your guide or the meet and greet agent, he/she will ask if you want to change money and will then escort you to the nearest and best Bureau de change where you can convert currency.
Does Open Road Tours except credit card payments?
Yes we do accept all major credit cards.
Do all tours include a driver/guide?
All tours that are booked as guided tours include the services of a driver and a guide, if the group is smaller than 10 PAX your guide will be your driver as well as the guide.
Will I have Internet Access in Africa?
Namibia and South Africa are the only two countries in Southern and east Africa that have full Internet access. Botswana and Tanzania will have full Internet access shortly. However Internet café ‘s are rare and can be found in some major shopping centers.
Is there cellphone coverage in Africa?
Cell phone coverage in Southern Africa is of a very high standard. Phones can be rented for a nominal fee at any of the major airports.
Can I feed the wild animals?
Contact with all wild animals is strictly prohibited. Tourists should not attempt to have there photo taken with any wild animal and should remain in there vehicles at all times when traveling through wild life parks and reserves. Designated areas are available like picnic spots and camps, which enable tourists to walk around freely.
Who are the Big 5?
The big 5 are the Lion, Leopard, Rhino, Elephant and Buffalo.
Do I need vaccinations to visit any Southern Africa and East Africa countries?
It is strongly advised that if you are entering a Malaria area that you consult with your doctor for the correct Malaria medication. Most Wild life parks and reserves are designated Malaria areas. However there are also Non-Malaria areas that do host the big five and offer just as rewarding game experiences. To find out more about non-malaria game parks, contact one of our travel experts.
Will I have access to medical facilities?
Generally the Major towns and Cities do have adequate medical facilities. It is strongly advised that travel insurance is taken to cover yourself in the light of any unfortunate eventuality.

What about my safety? Isn't Africa an unsafe destination?
Crime is a problem in all major Cities across the world, which need not impact on the enjoyment of your holiday. When making a booking, one of our travel experts will assist you with all safety aspects.

We want to do a self-drive. What are the conditions of the roads?
The road infrastructure in most East and Southern Africa countries in and around major cities is of good quality. South Africa in particular is well geared to handle self drive trips with an excellent road network infrastructure, which allows for access to all major tourist areas. Vehicles hired are of a very high standard and good quality using world-renowned brand names.
Will we encounter wild life like lions on the roads?
Most wild life in almost all the East and Southern Africa countries are found only in the designated wild life reserves and sanctuaries. You would find lion and big game on the roads in these areas. You are not however bound to encounter any of the big five in any urban or rural areas.
